WEC 2018 season is moving forward providing clear figures about Toyota TS050 supremacy on LMP1 class. No discussion about flying lap capability, reliability and race pace consistency so far, nevertheless last race at Silverstone has offered an unpredictable results. Toyota TS050 Hybrid n. 8 , the winning car driven by Fernando Alonso, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima, as well as sister car .7 were found to be in non-conformity of Article 3.5.6.d of 2018 LMP1-H Technical regulation that cover permitted deflection of the skid block. BR1 is certainly an interesting actor of LMP1 non-Hybrid group with a design that appears quite sophisticated since its first unveiling at Al Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. This prototype has been design and developed by Dallara for BR Engineering and takes advantage from the design experience gained on the LMP2 car. LMP1 technical rules, especially on the aero side, provide more room on splitter area that in turn means higher downforce and efficiency with surfaces design that is all but simplified. Le Mans 24h weekend is getting very closed and beside Toyota, BR/Dallara and ByKolles there is another interesting LMP1 car to be reviewed, namely Ginetta G60-LT-P1. Presented in January during Autosport International at Birmingham, model G60 named as tribute to 60th anniversary of UK brand located at Leeds, is an interesting interpretation of the LMP1 technical rules. It is powered with Mecachrome V6, 3.4 litres with nearly 650 HP and will be primary actor competing on LMP1 privateer title. Spa Francorchamps race weekend was as usual a good proving ground to test low downforce aero package to be adopted at Le Mans. We take opportunity to review here Rebellion R13, primary actor competing on LMP1 privateer title. Interesting to see how they will perform at Le Mans, competing with Toyota hybrid TS050. It is known that Rebellion R13 is built around Oreca 07 chassis, and Gibson GL458 engine. At first look the car from outside has same philosophy as the Oreca 07, but there are several changes from front to back creating different airflow management on external aerodynamics as well as cooling. Porsche, despite his withdrawal from WEC, has developed his 919 Hybrid focusing on maximising his performance in unique experiment to challenge laptime record at Spa. This gave motorsport community the great opportunity to compare LMP1 and F1 performance. Last occasion during 2017 Prologue in Monza has proven F1 to be faster, (1’30’’547 marked by Lapierre on Toyota TS050 vs. 1’21’’135 Hamilton pole position on Mercedes W07). WEC Superseason 2018/2019 is about to get started at Spa Francorchamps during first weekend of May. 30 hours collective testing at Paul Ricard, high tech racing circuit, has clearly outlined Toyota TS50 as very competitive package that with the addition of great reliability shown is to be considered as the fastest car. 1’32”662 best laptime with top speed at 347,3 km/h on Mistral straight are very impressive numbers. January 2017 DPi prototypes made debut at Rolex 24 Hours Daytona, opening event of IMSA Weather Tech Sport Car Championship. Given recent withdrawal from WEC by Porsche and effect that this will have on Toyota programs, it seems interesting to see DPi as a possible addition to top level prototype class. 6 hours race at Nurburgring has provided a great opportunity to see again prototypes with Aero kit designed to maximize downforce, a huge turnaround from maximum efficiency target necessary on legendary Le Mans 24 Heures.
