6H at Spa Francorchamps is as usual last opportunity to prepare and test cars for the golden appointment of WEC season: 24H of Le Mans.
2023 is certainly dense of contents considering lot of cars either LMH an LMDh taking the start of this evergreen classis.
Despite Balance of Performance and Homologation process, that affect aerodynamics design approach, the great aspect is that most of the cars are following quite distinctive aero concept and still showing similar performance on track.
Let’s review briefly front and rear view of the cars, outlining most interesting concepts on aero design.

Le Mans 24h was the perfect event to conclude WEC superseason 2018-2019. LMP1 class has been entirely dominated, as expected, by Team Toyota with the 2 TS50 that started from front grid and challenge each other during the entire race. As is often the case also this edition has been decided during last hour, due to a puncture revealed on car #7 that in reality has been discovered to be a malfunctioning of TPMS System (Temperature and Pressure Monitoring System) that constantly control pressure and temperature inside the 4 tyres.
Result of LMP2 class has been more uncertain during the marathon with a very intense race pace.

6H at Spa Francorchamps will be surely remembered for the incredible weather conditions, never seen so far on the long WEC Superseason 2018-19.
Despite sunny starting after 3 minutes all turn into a rainy and snowy race, difficult for the drivers and challenging to keep strategy in phase with constantly changing track conditions.
Toyota TS050 take another victory, never in discussion in term of performance but challenging for the low grip conditions.
As we outlined several times in these aero analysis the area behind front splitter and aside front keel is very crucial to guide the flow managing the effect of front tyre turbulence and vortex.

WEC 2018 season is moving forward providing clear figures about Toyota TS050 supremacy on LMP1 class. No discussion about flying lap capability, reliability and race pace consistency so far, nevertheless last race at Silverstone has offered an unpredictable results.
Toyota TS050 Hybrid n. 8 , the winning car driven by Fernando Alonso, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima, as well as sister car .7 were found to be in non-conformity of Article 3.5.6.d of 2018 LMP1-H Technical regulation that cover permitted deflection of the skid block.
Rebellion R13 n.3 take victory after Toyota exclusions following post-race scrutineering (with Steward’s decision n. 25 and 26).

BR1 is certainly an interesting actor of LMP1 non-Hybrid group with a design that appears quite sophisticated since its first unveiling at Al Sakhir circuit in Bahrain.
This prototype has been design and developed by Dallara for BR Engineering and takes advantage from the design experience gained on the LMP2 car.
LMP1 technical rules, especially on the aero side, provide more room on splitter area that in turn means higher downforce and efficiency with surfaces design that is all but simplified.
Comparing low downforce kit (SPA - Le Mans) with high downforce configuration is always an interesting exercise.
On BR1 the research of lower drag , thanks to less downforce demands, turn ...

Le Mans 24h qualifying sessions clearly confirm the performances level noted since collective practice sessions at Paul Ricard and first event of WEC super Season 2018/2019 at Spa Francorchamps circuit.
Reference car is undoubtedly Toyota TS50 that could be considered almost without competitors on Lmp1 class, thanks to long participation to WEC and available resources, significantly larger than all other teams.
Fortunately reliability is still to be verified for all competitors, this will be key factor since winners at Le Mans were not always the fastest cars.
We are only few hours ahead from getting answers to several considerations made by enthusiasts during last months.

Le Mans 24h weekend is getting very closed and beside Toyota, BR/Dallara and ByKolles there is another interesting LMP1 car to be reviewed, namely Ginetta G60-LT-P1.
Presented in January during Autosport International at Birmingham, model G60 named as tribute to 60 th anniversary of UK brand located at Leeds, is an interesting interpretation of the LMP1 technical rules. It is powered with Mecachrome V6, 3.4 litres with nearly 650 HP and will be primary actor competing on LMP1 privateer title.
Ginetta G60-LT-P1 is adopting a rather conventional cooling ducts system for brakes.
Front ducts are designed with recessed scoop located just over the splitter on fender inside surface. ...
