At Retromobile’s Patrick Peter had assured us the Classic Imola 2013 would have been better in respect of the past season, and in effect, on Sunday evening when back home, we agreed that the result was wildly obtained both for organization and presence of cars. However, what left a bad taste in our mouths was to realise that in Italy the attraction for this type of event is reduced or almost not existing. Few, very few drivers and with stands decidedly left empty by those fans who, many times or too many ones, were showing off a competence and interest not translating into a real participation.
However, even if the standards of Spa Classic or Dix Milles Tours were not reached, the factors ...

As usual the class for the cars making history in the endurance races, between the end of the 50’s and first half of the 60’s, made a great performance on the truck, above all for competitiveness shown by numerous crews. Among the most admired vehicles, in spite of any foolish ambition to obtain a good result ahead of the cavalry of rivals, there was an Alfa Romeo Giulia SS, 1600 cc engine. The car was born at dawn of 1960 to challenge the Porsche 356, and featured by a coefficient of penetration standards overall for those days. As customary the weekend saw the dominium of the AC Cobras, driven by the crew Hart-Hugenholtz that took pole position before Guernat-Mahe and Firmenich-Moser. ...

Against the will of our Director, who teased me on Sunday when leaving the Principality in a rainy evening, I didn’t entitle this article “Oh, how nice! Oh how nice!” Perhaps because fine is a too restrictive adjective for a weekend that on the most famous circuit in the world has collected a fantastic selection of cars which have been fighting a long time during the three day’s event.
To be present at a prestigious event which occurs every two years only, meant to each of us a special feeling: certainly the drivers felt with pride and met with dedication the contest with a track which may be loved or hated, but it is yet a severe test bed in the motor racing history ...

The 2011 season of Peter Auto was ended in Provence for the second consecutive year, with the Dix Mille Tours of Castellet, the event reserved to historic cars created last year with the purpose to gather, at least for one weekend, all those cars that have been the Endurance queens for forty years. As expected, the program carried out was of the highest level, showing what valid are the formulas used by the French Manager. Obviously, they didn’t reach the levels of the first edition when, contemporaneously, there were also the celebrations of the fortieth anniversary of Paul Ricard circuit, and neither same levels that could have been obtained in the case of a confirmed presence of FIA ...

Once finished the English racing event of Silverstone with its anomalous number of entries and an uncertain weather forecast, the Classic Endurance Racing has made a stop in Portugal for the fifth round of the championship. On the Estoril circuit, preferred for this year with respect to the new circuit of Algarve, we saw only 29 cars on the track, even if, it must be said, that the only main competitors to miss the appointment were Watson/O’Connell, the recent winners just in the British country. On the contrary, among those who returned to the category, there were a great Bobby Rahal, the winner of 1986 Indy 500, who was at the wheel of a Lola T212, a twice champion of the category Luco ...

After two months of a summer break, the Classic Endurance Racing returned on the track on the occasion of the six-hours of Silverstone for the fourth meeting of the season. As it has always happened in this English appointment, we saw an unusual number of cars on the track to demonstrate what makes the owner’s of vintage cars be so keen of the racing events in the Anglo-Saxon countries. Among more remarkable new entries there was a beautiful Toj Sc302, one of the most interesting car wanted by Jorg Obermoser, who distinguished himself at the end of the seventies in the World Endurance and Interseries Championship, and finally taken to the track by Wilkins-Catlow.
Due to a variable and ...

It was the circuit of Imola to host this year the third round of the 2011 Classic Endurance Racing. This famous track has always been the Ferrari’s stronghold and it was deeply revised in the last few years, above all after the 1994 accidents when Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzemberger lost their life: once eliminated the very fast Tamburello corner, a characteristic stretch of the old circuit, and the Variante Bassa which was removed to be straightened up before the pits, the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari however keeps the old configuration, narrow and full of ups and downs which make it difficult any overtaking and lapping.
In the paddocks spectators can see the Beta Montecarlo Turbo, ...

In a hot weekend of the end of June, Mont Ventoux was the stage of Ronde de Ventoux’s third edition, the historical recall of the famous uphill race which took place between 1902-1976, boasting of some names in the list of winners like Boillot, Divo, Caracciola, Stuck, Manzon, Trintignant, Scarfiotti, Herrmann and still many others. Organized by Peter Auto, this event saw a test edition in 2001, and since 2009 it had been officially reorganized every two years for the cars that had run this famous race or had special historic value, the list of which has been made by the same organizers.
This event is particularly appreciated for the stage in which it takes place: the Giant of Provence, ...

The eleventh edition of this year’s Le Mans Legend has also been reserved for the Sports and Gt cars built between 1949 and 1965. In the paddock you could see, side by side, cars like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Ferrari, Morgan, Porsche, Lotus, Lister and many others, in a puzzle very much aspired indeed. Spectators were particularly charmed by the jaguar D Type, long nose shaped, in which Hawthorn-Bueb drivers won the 24 Hours in 1955, a fantastic Aston Martin DBR1 that won the 1000 km of the 1957 Nürburgring with Tony Brooks and Noël Cunningham-Reid, and a good number of Ferraris and Porsches RS60 and RS61. At the wheel of them there were also some great names of the past like David ...

In the last weekend of May, Spa circuit saw the entry of the historic cars that unlike what has happened since last year, wasn’t concerning the RMU Classic, but a new Spa Classic organized by expert Patrick Peter. This event sponsored by the Royal Automobile Club de Belgique that has intended, after its merger with RMU made on 2 April 2009, to renew an exhibition which has been developing in the years around the participants but disregarding the context needed to draw spectators. Besides the exhibition on the circuit of Ardennes of fantastic vintage cars, Peter concentrated the race on entertainment events like activities devoted both to young and adult people. The adults were walking ...
